Spinal Decompression in Santa Cruz

lady with back pain on couchDr. Bjorn has noticed an increase in the amount of people with serious back and spinal issues. Some have sought surgical options without trying more conservative and non-invasive approaches, such as chiropractic and spinal decompression. Fortunately, there has also been an increase of late in those who don’t want to go that route. For many, spinal decompression is a great option for their chronic back pain.

What is Spinal Decompression?

At Network Chiropractic Wellness Center, we offer cutting-edge technology with our computerized spinal decompression table. Before any therapy begins, we use the patient’s height and weight to calibrate the settings on the table. A specific program or algorithm is programmed to target the problem area in the spine.

Once the patient is lying on the table, a series of straps are used to hold your body safely in place while the machine is in motion. Dr. Bjorn likes to say the table is giving you a hug!

When the computer program begins, the decompression machine goes through a series of pumping motions, stretching and then releasing the target area. This allows more blood flow to the affected discs, speeding healing, and also increasing the space between the vertebrae, taking pressure off the nerves, and relieving the pain. It also allows misaligned discs to move back into place.

The process starts very slow and gentle, and gradually increases the pull as the care plan progresses. The table is comfortable, and some people even fall asleep during the treatment. Over time, as the spine stretches, the body learns the new position and holds the benefits longer.

Try Something Different

Many patients come to us after they’ve tried numerous other treatments, injections, and medical practitioners. Some have even been to other chiropractors who couldn’t help them.

If you’ve been suffering with chronic back pain, herniated or degenerated discs, or increasing arthritic changes, spinal decompression may be what you need to improve your spinal health. As an adjunct to gentle chiropractic care, spinal decompression may be helpful for those who don’t tolerate regular adjustments well.

What to Expect

Since spinal decompression is customized to the individual, it’s essential for Dr. Bjorn to determine what level of the spine to target for fastest healing.

After viewing your films and a thorough consultation, Dr. Bjorn will create a plan to address your needs and get you out of pain as quickly as possible.
